Hard week for some on the triathlon circuit.
Athletes and coaches will have been pouring over the feedback, files and results from last weekend and assessing what went right and what they can learn from their experiences in Italy, Morocco, France and Wales.
The senior men were in Morocco and it was a mixed bag of results as seen from the social media posts of the athletes. Russell White showed his ripped open trisuit from the first turn buoy demonstrating that despite the increased vigilance from race referees triathlon and particularly the swim is very much a full contact sport.
Jonathan Oakey was the best finisher with a good run to finish off a solid race. Having the fastest bike split is not always a positive but this was from a fast chasing second group on the road.
In Wales Ralf Bodamer was 38th from a big field in the British superseries race while in Italy the Juniors were experiencing a major super sprint race for the 1st time. It's always a big jump from being one of the faster swimmers in a small field to the intensity of a European event. The speed that everything happens at can take time to adjust to. The finals are available to view here https://www.youtube.com/live/VqE_XnchvcM?feature=share. Mathys Bocquet was the top finisher and showed how fine the margins are in missing the final by 3 seconds in his heat. They should all take positives from the experience and look forward to going again.
Meanwhile in France Shannon Kelly punctured out of the Division 1 French Grand Prix event in Frejus but she continues her season in Egypt along with Chloe Pollard and Russell White over the sprint distance. White was going well last week and a little luck and one good clean race could start something for him. Kelly has been getting closer to big packs on bike and would also likely take a big leap forward if she made one and ran well off it. Pollard comes into the race from the world aquathon champs and she will be expecting to be towards the front onto the bike after a good swim in last race.
Best of luck to all this weekend.
